- Rainy Season (March to May) Heavy rains dominate, leading to fewer tourists and closed resorts, offering a quiet escape for those who don’t mind the wet.
- Brief Showers (November) Occasional rains sprinkle the landscape but leave plenty of sunshine for visitors to enjoy the island’s beauty.
How to Get to Zanzibar Islands?
There are so many ways to Get to the Zanzibar Islands. Here are a few of them:
- Plane Fly directly to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ), just three miles south of Zanzibar City. Then, take a taxi. Remember, taxi fares are negotiable, costing approximately TZS33,500 to Zanzibar City and TZS111,500 to the North Coast resorts.
Alternatively, fly to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and take a scenic ferry ride to Unguja Island.
- Train and Ferry Start from Dar es Salaam, a major train hub on the mainland. Combine train travel with a passenger ferry to reach Zanzibar. Ferry tickets range from TZS78,120 to TZS111,500.
- Car While direct car travel is not feasible due to passenger-only ferry services, you can rent a car once on the island. Note: a temporary Zanzibar driver’s permit is required.
- Bus Travel around Zanzibar using dala-dalas—crowded, open-sided minibuses. Frequent daily services connect Zanzibar City with other locations on both Unguja and Pemba Islands.
