15 Days Volunteer Projects & Safaris in Tanzania Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania

Legacy Exchange Representative will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and escort you to tonight’s accommodations in Arusha. As local Tanzanians, our guides know the country with unrivaled familiarity, so you’ll be in good hands from the moment you land to the moment you leave. Meals –Dinner. Accommodation: Hostel, Volunteer House or Home Stay. Hotel on Special Request

Day 2: In country Orientation

After breakfast, the Legacy program coordinator will give you detailed information about the country, area, facilities, transport, places of interest, restaurants, recreation, and placement. The coordinator will also give you all information related to your program schedule and activities. This Orientation Session will be very useful for you during your entire stay in Arusha Tanzania. Later you will be going for a local area tour which will help you to get familiar with the place. Meals – Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Accommodation: Hostel, Volunteer House or Home Stay.

Day 3: Visit Volunteering Project

Your volunteer work will begin today. Our program coordinator will accompany you from the volunteer house to the program location on the first day to make you familiar with traveling in the country. He’ll also introduce you to the local people at the placement. After this familiarization day, after lunch, our guide will take you to Monduli Juu for a local Market Experience. Monduli Juu Village Sunday Market Located along the road leading into the Serengeti National Park, the tiny mountain village of Monduli Juu hosts the Red Market every Sunday. Local Maasai people descend on the town from the outlying region, dressed in their red-tartan blankets and carrying goods to sell and barter with for the vegetables, clothes, soap, live animals, and cooking oil on sale here. This is very much a vital market, not a show for tourists. Goat auctions take place on the soccer field, and women lead donkeys from the market laden with heavy sacks of rice. A dala dala (minibus) from Arusha is recommended: The journey takes about an hour, is affordable, and passes through a lush green forest. Accommodation: Hostel, Volunteer House or Home Stay. Day 4: Participate on Sunday Service with Local Community

In Tanzania, most families attend church services from morning to midday. It’s also family gathering day. Depending on your preference we can alternatively visit Meru Forest this includes visiting waterfalls, a birdwatching experience as well as pre-organized cycling tours. Accommodation: Hostel, Volunteer House or Home Stay. Hotel on Special Request

Day 5 - 10: Volunteering Work

Officially start your volunteering program that your team wants to get involved in. At the end of the day, you will have time to plan for the following day, and share and discuss your highlights from the day. Accommodation: Hostel, Volunteer House or Home Stay. Hotel on Special Request

Day 11: Beginning of Wildlife Safari

Your exciting wildlife safari experience starts today. Head off for Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobab trees tower over some of the largest herds of elephants in all of Africa. Keep a lookout for the hundreds of bird species Tarangire is known for—and dramatic interactions between predator and prey at the park’s watering holes. Arrive for lunch and proceed with an evening game drive. Meals Included: Breakfast -Lunch-Dinner Accommodations: Tarangire Ballon or Camp Tarangire Safari Lodge

Day 12 : Full Day Game Drive

After breakfast depart for a full-day game drive in Tarangire. Spend the day exploring Tarangire on game drives. Tarangire’s grassy plains are dotted with massive baobab trees and are home to a high concentration of area wildlife. Elephants are especially abundant here, with some herds numbering up to 300 strong. Due to its low volume of visitors, the reserve offers a serene and intimate wildlife-viewing experience. Seek out large herds of zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest, as well as the skulking leopards and cheetahs that prey on them. The park is also home to around 550 species of birds, including dazzling Yellow-collared lovebirds and the world’s largest avian species, the stocking-thighed ostrich. Day 13: Explore Serengeti

On this day depart from Tarangire and drive through Ngorongoro highlands towards Serengeti, stop at the crater rim viewpoint to see the magnificent world’s largest crater, and Delve into the story of human origins at the Olduvai Gorge Museum located near the site where the National Geographic archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered early hominid fossils and stone tools. Visit Shifting Sand Dunes,(Optional) it’s estimated that these shifting sand dunes have been wandering the savannah for 3 million years. The sand is remarkably dark, especially in comparison with the soil surrounding the dunes. This is because it is highly magnetized volcanic ash, which explains why the particles tend to fall back on the dunes instead of being blown away by the wind. After lunch, continue to the world-famous Serengeti National Park and go on a safari across the wild Serengeti Plain, keeping an eye out for galloping giraffes and lounging lions; then settle into our tented camp under the setting sun. Day 14: Serengeti Endless Plain Game Drive

Today, get to know the incredible creatures of the Serengeti. Choose to get a bird’s-eye view of the park as you float above it on an optional sunrise hot-air balloon safari. Or set out on morning and afternoon wildlife-viewing adventures. Ride in a 4×4 over golden plains, gazing out from the pop-up roof to glimpse wildlife through binoculars, or watch as animals walk right by us! Watering holes also draw all kinds of visitors, from towering giraffes to the tiny dik-diks, a miniature species of antelope. With luck, spot all of Africa’s “big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. Meals Included: Breakfast -Lunch – Dinner Accommodations: Kati Kati Tented Camps

Day 15: Fly or Drive from Serengeti to Arusha

After your breakfast take an easy morning as well as an en-route game drive through Central Serengeti. You will arrive in Arusha in the mid-afternoon. You will connect to South Africa
