Rongai Route
Experience the only route approaching Kilimanjaro from the north.

Experience The Beauty Of Rongai Route
The six-day version of the Rongai route (via Mawenzi Tarn) is the route of choice for those looking for an easy climb with excellent success rates, but away from the crowds, with great scenery and a wilderness feel to it. It is slightly more expensive.
The route is the only climb route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north. The descent is in the southeast via the Marangu route, so you get to see both sides of the mountain.
The extra transport cost makes a route climb more expensive. It is also more expensive because there is less demand and fewer budget operators.
The route has a reputation for being less scenic, but even if there is not quite as much variety as on Machame, it is still a spectacular route, especially in the later days. The camp beneath Mawenzi Peak is one of the most scenic on the mountain.

The route is also one of the routes where seeing wildlife on Kilimanjaro is still possible.
The route climb has the same easy, gradual climb profile as the Marangu route. It rises very steadily, there aren’t many steep climbs involved, making it a great choice for first-time mountain trekkers.
The camps are staggered for acclimatization, which will help climbers adapt to the altitude better than with the Marangu route.
There is an additional acclimatization day, which helps increase chances of successfully reaching the summit.
The Rongai Route has a decent acclimatization profile, but another appeal is the chance of spotting wildlife on Africa’s highest mountain. Climbers sometimes spot see elephants and buffalo in the distance.
The route has another important advantage: the northern side of Kilimanjaro receives less rainfall than other routes, and is the preferred trail for climbers in the wet season. Finally, climbers do not trek through a rain forest, which means less chance of rain on that first hiking day.
Rongai is an exciting option for not only summitting Africa’s highest mountain, but having an exciting adventure each day of the climb.
