Getting to Kitulo National Park
Kitulo National Park can be reached by different modes of transportation, depending on your starting point and travel preferences.
- By Road For those travelling by road, the park is accessible via a 4×4 vehicle from Dar es Salaam. The journey involves taking a surfaced main road heading south toward Mbeya town, followed by a scenic drive to the park headquarters in Matamba, which is approximately 78 kilometres away.
From Matamba, the drive continues along a rugged dirt road with sharp bends and stunning views, leading to the provisional park headquarters and then on to the plateau.
- By Air If you prefer to fly, the quickest option is to take a direct flight from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya Airport, covering a distance of 637 kilometres. The flight typically takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, after which you can continue your journey to the park by road.
