7 Day Machame Trek
Conquer Africa’s highest peak on Kilimanjaro’s most scenic route
7 Day Machame Trek Overview
7 Days Kilimanjaro Machame Route is one of the most popular treks on Africa’s highest mountain, and for good reason: it has excellent acclimatization, the highest success rate of all routes, and is known for being incredibly scenic. Over 7 days, you have a fantastic journey and a great chance of summiting successfully.
The climb begins at Machame Gate, at an altitude of 1800 meters, with an approach to the southwest of the mountain. It passes through the majestic rainforest on the first day, before continuing up the mountain to reach Shira Camp, where the Lemosho route joins from the west. From here you traverse the southern side of the mountain to Barranco via Lava Tower and climb the Great Barranco Wall on your way to Barafu Camp. After reaching the summit, you will descend by the Mweka trail, rather than retracing your steps along the ascent route.
Machame route is known as being more technically difficult than some other routes up Kilimanjaro, but it also prepares climbers for the final ascent. Additionally, the 7-day itinerary has the highest success rate of all Kilimanjaro climbs (with an estimated 97% of all climbers successfully reaching the summit). Making the challenge of Machame Route totally worth it to reach Uhuru Peak.
The Machame route is a good seven-day hike for those without previous climbing experience. Experienced and already acclimatized mountaineers may opt for the more difficult 6-day ascent along the Machame route.

Our Reviews
Legacy Exchange Outfitters offers more than just a vacation. Eugene and his team work hard to provide their guests with a remarkable experience. However, sightseeing wild animals in their natural habitat is only part of the adventure.
