10 Days Serengeti Walking Safari
Experience Tanzania’s stunning landscapes, while on an and unforgettable adventure in nature.

10 Days Serengeti Walking Safari Overview
Legacy Exchange Outfitters walking safari is the most authentic version of safari. It leaves the roads behind and allows you to be immersed in nature.
Walking safaris offer the chance for guests to move at a slower-pace with guided walks, so they can explore the environment as it has been for millenia. Get closer and notice small details, scents and sounds as you move on foot.
Our Walking safaris enable you to encounter things you might miss from a safari vehicle. Instead of rushing from one animal sighting to another, you examine footprints on the ground and track them. Our naturalist guides will teach you how to identify the animals by their droppings, name bird species by their chirps and touch and smell the flowers and plants you pass.

10 Days Serengeti Walking Safari Itinerary
Guests are picked up upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (contact us if you plan to arrive at a different airport). Overnight at our preferred accommodation partner, Planet Lodge in a beautiful setting a short drive from the airport.

Drive from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Highlands (approx 2 hrs). The splendid Mysigio Camp is nestled amongst the acacia forests on the southern side of the highlands. An idyllic spot where the Maasai still live very traditional lives. Ole Dorop, the local Maasai chief, is our guide as we explore the hill he calls home. There is also an opportunity to stop at a ‘boma’ or local Maasai community. Overnight at our luxury tented camp, Mysigio Camp.

Descend from the Ngorongoro Highlands and drive out across the vast Serengeti plains. The mobile camp moves throughout the Serengeti according to the season and wildlife. This camp is the same luxury-sized tents as used in Ngorongoro, with a light and airy mess to accommodate the warmer temperatures as well as a library tent filled with books, games and a shaded outdoor area ideal for relaxing.

Another full day to experience the beauty of nature in the Serengeti. The wildebeest migration sweeps through the plains in a huge arc before crossing into the Maasai Mara during the dry season, then back into northern Tanzania via epic river crossings over the Grumeti River, in search of fresh grass. Overnight in the luxury tented camp.
Full board.

The first day of your walking safari in the Serengeti. Along with a guide and an armed ranger, follow animal tracks and walk in the untouched wilderness. Set up camp in a remote area and experience the thrill of being ‘one with the wild’ from sunset to nightfall. Guests share that the starry night sky in the Wilderness Camp of Serengeti is one of the highlights of their safari experience – nothing compares!

A full day walking safari.Set off early in the cool of the morning to explore the area. Stop for lunch in the heat of the day under a shady tree or a cool overhang. Walking in the Serengeti is not about covering huge distances, it is about moving slowly so as not to disturb the wildlife, peering around a rock kopjes to see a herd of impala grazing oblivious to our presence, sitting above a waterhole to watch as the game come down to drink. It’s about enjoying the small pleasures, discovering the traditional medicinal properties of a tree, following a honey guide bird as it leads us to a hive. On occassion, your heart will speed up when larger animals are spotted, but a cautious distance is always kept, and a park ranger will accompany your walking safari. Overnight in a new area of the Serengeti Wilderness, enjoying the same remote sensation and luxury camp set-up.

Another day that combines a walking safari and re-settling of camp to another location so that you can explore more of the world’s most famous national park. Spy gazelles or oryx as you walk in the forest, and set both your feet in an elephant’s single foot pint as you walk in the wild.
Full board, overnight in a new location beneath that same majestic Serengeti night sky.

Our final day of walking amongst the towering rock kopjes that dot the area. We may find a spot where elephants dig for water during long droughts or find fresh dung of a buffalo as we march through the plains. A final night at the Wilderness Camp, a celebration of sorts, with a star studded African sky as our banner. Listen to the night’s sounds; a lion’s roar, a bird’s coo, a hyena’s laugh, as you fall asleep.

Drive to the Seronera (or other nearby) airstrip, located within the Serengeti to take a quick, one-hour flight back to Arusha. Enjoy a special lunch and a chance to finish souvenir shopping before arriving at Planet Lodge, located near the airport. Flight schedules usually require this to be a ‘day room’: a chance for you to freshen up before a night-time departure out of Kilimanjaro International Airport, but not a complete overnight at the hotel.

Our Reviews
Legacy Exchange Outfitters offers more than just a vacation. Eugene and his team work hard to provide their guests with a remarkable experience. However, sightseeing wild animals in their natural habitat is only part of the adventure.
